WeDiasporan is a socio-cultural research organization dedicated to reconnecting people of African descent with their rich cultural heritage and fostering meaningful partnerships in our globalized world.  

We are driven by a deep commitment to preserve and celebrate the stories, traditions, and contributions of the African diaspora. Our mission is to create transformative experiences through storytelling and memory building among people of African diaspora. We do this through our three key pillars as:

  1. Mutual Collaboration Through Dialogue,
  2. Knowledge Transfer and,
  3. Project Memorial.

The Journey – Where it all started

Founded in 2014 in Verona, Italy, WeDiasporan (formerly known as Evideos) emerged from our deep desire to share the untold stories of the first African immigrants in Verona and northern Italy.  

Our work began by highlighting the rich history of African migration in the region and has since expanded to preserve the voices of African migrants, their descendants, and the broader diaspora community. Through research, interviews, and impactful social projects, we aim to amplify these stories for generations to come. 

Our flagship project, The Journey, captures the African migrant experience in Verona from 1976 to the present. This multi-faceted exploration resulted in two important books: The Journey – Africans in Verona and The Color of Our Children.  

These works not only explore the migrant experience but also shed light on the stories of African children within the Italian school system and the experiences of African asylum seekers, giving a voice to those who have deeply influenced the cultural fabric of the African diaspora in the region. 

Through all our work, we have come to deeply appreciate the power of storytelling and the significance of shared experiences.
